I’m honored to be your 18th Chief of Police for the City of South Salt Lake. I have a strong commitment for law enforcement and for the community of South Salt Lake. Over the past several years I have watched the City make aggressive changes to improve the quality of life for those that reside and do business here. Serving as the new Police Chief, I am committed to aligning our department's mission with the vision of the City's, making future changes with P.R.I.D.E. In Our Community. Working together with our citizens and businesses, we as a department are committed to a transparent relationship that fosters community engagement and improves customer service.
As your Chief of Police, I would like to recognize all the men and women that serve our community each and every day. It is their dedication and professionalism that makes South Salt Lake a safer place to live and a quality place to do business.

South Salt Lake Police Chief Jack Carruth was appointed to the position of Chief by Mayor Cherie Wood on February 1, 2014, with unanimous consent of City Council. Chief Carruth started his law enforcement career in 1992 with South Jordan City, before taking employment with the City of South Salt Lake.
Dedicating over two decades in law enforcement, Chief Carruth has worked his way through the ranks with the South Salt Lake Police Department, serving as a Patrol Officer, K9 Officer, Traffic Sergeant, Operations Captain, and Deputy Chief before his appointment to Chief of Police.
Chief Carruth is a recipient of the Medal of Merit for exceptional service as a K9 Officer and was awarded the Chief's Star for extraordinary service while serving as the Traffic Unit sergeant.
Chief Carruth has focused his education on leadership, attending the University of Utah’s Law Enforcement Leadership Program, the FBI Command College and is a Graduate of the FBI National Academy - Session #252.
