I’m honored to be your 18th Chief of Police for the City of South Salt Lake. I have a strong commitment for law enforcement and for the community of South Salt Lake. Over the past several years I have watched the City make aggressive changes to improve the quality of life for those that reside and do business here. Serving as the new Police Chief, I am committed to aligning our department's mission with the vision of the City's, making future changes with P.R.I.D.E. In Our Community. Working together with our citizens and businesses, we as a department are committed to a transparent relationship that fosters community engagement and improves customer service.
As your Chief of Police, I would like to recognize all the men and women that serve our community each and every day. It is their dedication and professionalism that makes South Salt Lake a safer place to live and a quality place to do business.

South Salt Lake Police Chief Jack Carruth has served as the city’s lead law enforcement official since February 2014 at the appointment of Mayor Wood and the unanimous consent of City Council. Chief Carruth brings more than 2 decades of law enforcement experience to the position, including 17 years in South Salt Lake, serving the last three years as South Salt Lake Deputy Police Chief.
Chief Carruth graduated from the FBI National Academy-Session 252 in 2013 and has worked through the ranks in the South Salt Lake Police Department since 1993, in the following capacities: Patrol Officer, Detective, K9 Handler, Sergeant, Captain, and finally Deputy Chief before serving as Police Chief.
