Economic Development Strategic Plan

 ED Report   South Salt Lake has just completed its first Economic Development Strategic Plan. The Plan guides future economic and redevelopment efforts in the City and identifies gaps where the City is losing sales tax revenue. The plan also identifies areas for potential reinvestment where the City will focus its future redevelopment efforts. Click on the report to open and review.

Business Incentives

RDA Map

Tax Increment Financing is available to commercial uses that locate in specific geographical redevelopment areas of the City. These incentives are offered through the South Salt Lake Redevelopment Agency as well as through other taxing entities. South Salt Lake's downtown and streetcar districts are qualified areas for redevelopment incentives. Click on the map to review the location of redevelopment areas in the City. The Economic Development Corporation of Utah (edcUTAH) has created a Utah Business and Economic Profile. This comprehensive report outlines the economic highlights and characteristics of the State's workforce and development potential. Please click on the report to review and download. 

Plan Review

The Community and Economic Development Department is committed to ensuring that your business can begin construction or improvement your tenant space as quickly as possible. Most plan reviews take ten days or less for first review.

 Pre-development Meetings

So your business has the most accurate information as to any improvements that may need to be made to your building or property, the Community and Economic Development Department holds weekly pre-development meetings with the building office, city planner, public works inspector, and fire marshal. These meetings are held every Wednesday afternoon. To schedule a time, please contact the South Salt Lake City Planner, Alexandra White (801) 483-6011) or awhite@sslc.com, to schedule a time.

South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce

Chamber  The South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce represents over 200 of South Salt Lake businesses. The Chamber is a key link in ensuring that the City is also at the top of its game in being a business friendly community. Governors Office of Economic Development

GOED offers a number of business resources from finding the right site (SURE SITES), one stop business registration, and programs that will help increase the success rate of any size business.

 

Economic Development Corporation of Utah

edcUTAH offers a wide variety of business resources and research to help business make informed decisions about relocating and expanding in the Utah market.

 

Salt Lake County Economic Development

Salt Lake County is a leader in helping to locate businesses in the Salt Lake Valley and helps businesses increase their global market expansion.

 

Utah Micro Enterprise Loan Fund

The Utah Micro Enterprise Loan Fund helps to supply small and start up businesses the seed money that they need to start their business or to take the next step in expansion. The UMLF offers loans to small business between $1,000 to $50,000.

Miller Business Resource Center

If you are looking for training resources to start or expand your business, the MBRC is the one-stop shop you are looking for. The Center offers workforce training instruction, a small business development center, and Incubator space. The center is also home to the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program. This program links learning to action. Participants gain practical skills in negotiation, marketing, and employee management.

 

 Micro Enterprise Connection Center

 

The MECC connects refugee entrepreneurs and business owners with local business resources so they can launch, sustain, and grow successful businesses.

Employment Resources

South Salt Lake is committed to connecting South Salt Lake businesses to talented South Salt Lake residents who are looking for employment. The City has created a Jobs and Economic Development Committee to help businesses and residents find employment that will better the relationships of both the business and residents. If you are a South Salt Lake business please feel free to email us employment positions that you have available to add to this webpage. Also for businesses, below are a list of other resources that you may use to advertise and recruit the perfect employee. Please email all job notices to mflorence@sslc.com.

For South Salt Lake residents there are many available resources when searching for employment. Please review the below list and click on the provider to be redirected to their website.

Utah Department of Workforce Services, also look at their Facebook page for other resources and jobs fairs. The local DWS office is located at 720 S. 200 E. The Metro Center office provides a number of employment and eligibility services including medical, financial and child care.

LDS Employment Resource Services, also located at 724 E. 2100 S.

Catholic Community Services, CCS has many available jobs particularly for interpreter services
