About Our Youth City Council:

Our award-winning youth city council is a city sponsored organization made up of local high school students. We do service for the city, and in the process learn more about local government. Through the YCC we have a chance to speak at city council meetings, shadow city employees, sit on advisory boards, and work together as a real council.

We meet twice a month at city hall where we practice Roberts Rules of Order using an agenda. It is here where we plan our next service activity, as well as discuss our general council business.

In 2010, 2011 and 2013 we earned the 1^st place Award of Excellence for 20 members or less from the Association of Youth Councils. We worked hard all year and we are very proud of our accomplishment. We were awarded the Mayor's Youth Volunteer Award, and Presidential Service Award for all the community service we do!

We also had the opportunity to go to WashingtonD.C. for the CADCA conference. Here we learned what to look for in our community concerning drug abuse, as well as solutions to bring back to our community. We then took our knowledge to Logan,Ut. at the Youth City Council Leadership Institute and taught what we learned to other youth city councils.

Just like our motto says, (we were inspired from our own city’s tag line) we truly are “Youth on the move!”
If you are a resident of the City of South Salt Lake, in 9th-12th grade, and have a cummulative
GPA of 2.5 you qualify for our youth council. Please contact us to join this amazing organization! 

In an effort to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle in our city the South Salt Lake Youth City Council is once again holding its annual 5K fun run!

July 4th, 2013 8 AM Start Time

Fitts Park 500 East 3051 South

Each participant will receive a gender specific "get moving" t-shirt (the nice soft ones like last year!) if registered before June 20th and a commemorative Diamond Anniversary medal!

$25 Registration fee before June 27th $30 after. Last year we sold out of shirts so register early!
